Department of Epidemiology

The mission of Department of Epidemiology at IUMS, is to train community-oriented epidemiologists in MSc, MPH and PhD levels, considering the health of population in our catchment area, regionally and nationally, through excellence in education, research, and community engagement.

This department also contributes to responding to priority health issues at national and global levels, through training needs, research projects in collaboration with medical research centers, WHO and UN agencies, and other stakeholders.

Our common practice is to train next generations of scientists in field epidemiology in actual situations like during COVID pandemic. Our intention is to strengthen the translation of main public health and clinical questions into high-impact research, in various fields of epidemiology through observational, cohort, clinical and social trials-evidence synthesis.

Most of our research involves extensive collaborations both across the School and with colleagues in other research institutions around the country and even beyond the borders. Our research includes a large set of public health issues including: Persian cohort, Covid-19 vaccine trials, mental health, demography, emergency care, health equity, non-communicable disease, infectious diseases, cancer and genetic epidemiology.
